  • How many kids get hurt?
    • Every year about 200,000 children get injured badly enough to visit hospital emergency rooms.


  • Who gets hurt?
    • 3% are little boys and girls under 2 years old
    • 27% are kids between 2-4 years old
    • 56% are between 5-9 years old
    • 12% are 10-12 years old
    • 2% are 13-14 years old










  • How do kids get hurt?
    • 136,000 kids each year get hurt by falling to the surface
    • 20,000 kids each year get hurt by falling onto equipment
    • 16,000 kids each year get hurt due to impact with stationary equipment
    • 6,000 kids each year get hurt due to impact with moving equipment
    • 20,000 kids each year get hurt due to miscellaneous causes, these include:
      contact with crush points and sharp edges, entanglement and head or neck entrapment.




  • What gets hurt?
    • Fractures account for about 40% of all injuries.
    • About 80% of these fractures involve the wrist, lower arm and elbow
    • Of injuries to the head and face, about 15% were diagnosed as concussions, internal injuries and fractures.

    • 30% Swings
    • 20 % Slides

    • 45% Schools
    • 31% Public Parks
    • 10% Daycare/Preschool
